A Spin on Nostalgia

Alice in Wonderland has always amazed me with its magic, wonder and thrill of the unexpected. The Mad Tea Party ride captures that spirit perfectly, whether it’s a gentle twirl or spinning as fast as you can, it’s always full of joy and laughter.

I reimagined the piece as a playful centerpiece, something you’d proudly display, sparking conversation and delight. Like stepping into Wonderland, it brings a piece of the park home with a dash of the unexpected.

Shaping the Experience

Shaping the Experience

After purchasing a 5–6 RPM electric motor, I modeled it in SolidWorks and designed a custom housing to fit it precisely, building the rest of the design around this component.

I 3D-printed all the pieces in PLA filament and hand-painted them to match the theme.

To stabilize the cups, I used magnets to keep them in place while allowing smooth spinning. Between the base magnet and the cups, I added an acrylic layer that both covered the mechanism and created a clean floor for the cups.

I accounted for space at the bottom for the cable to exit cleanly, and added a felt pad to prevent the piece from sliding around.
